WHAT IS EXIF?

EXIF stands for Exchangeable Image File format for digital still cameras. It is an industry specification for putting information about the camera and image directly into the image's file data. There is a wealth of information that can be recorded in the image's file data and nearly all digital cameras now include some EXIF data in each image's file.

iPhoto -versus- iC2

iPhoto shows some EXIF information when you have a single picture selected and you press the "apple + i" keyboard combination. (NOTE: If you have multiple pictures selected in iPhoto, no information is presented.)

iC2 currently caters to the "point-and-shoot" user and shows more information than iPhoto that could help you determine why one picture turned out good while another didn't. When you click on the Show EXIF Info button in iPhoto Copy Companion, iC2 will present a new window showing the most popular EXIF data for each picture checked in the Image List box. iPhoto Copy Companion recognizes the EXIF v2.1 specification.

WHY IS IT USEFUL?

The EXIF information may yield clues to why one picture turned out better than another picture.

In iC2, compare the EXIF information for good/bad pictures and then refer to your camera's owner's manual for more information on available programmable functions. You will probably find that one or more camera settings can be changed to yield a better result under certain conditions.
